The Philippines at the Forefront of Physical Internet Research with EASTS Pi IRG
The Philippines is proud to be a key participant in the burgeoning field of Physical Internet (PI) research, specifically through its active involvement in an International Research Group (IRG) under the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (EASTS).
The EASTS Pi IRG is a dedicated collective of scholars and practitioners, committed to advancing the vision of the Physical Internet for the logistics industry within the Philippines and the broader East Asian region. Affiliated with universities across the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, and Australia, this group embodies the spirit of international cooperation central to EASTS’s mission. Collaborating with national government agencies and industry stakeholders, the IRG aims to translate cutting-edge research into tangible improvements for regional logistics.
What is the “Physical Internet” or PI?
The Physical Internet (PI) is a global logistics framework that emphasizes openness and connectivity through physical, digital, and operational means, using encapsulation, interfaces, and protocols. It takes inspiration from the ‘Digital Internet’ (DI) and applies similar principles to the handling and storage of physical goods. PI seeks to tackle problems such as transportation inefficiencies, environmental impact, supply chain resilience, asset utilization, standardization and interoperability, last-mile delivery issues, and urban logistics challenges.
